House MD: Season 5, Episode 7

Cameron’s back and hotter than ever!  Yes, Cameron has always been hot, but as she matures, she’s only 29, she gets better looking.  She does not have that edge thirteen has, but she does have some intangible, sweetness that makes her impossible to resist.

Ok, so the episode had some definite conflict.  Taub’s sleeping on the couch.  House is not sure if he wants to start something with Cuddy.  Chase and Cameron are at odds.  However, the show itself lacks the overall conflict that is strong enough to scare the audience week to week.  Season 1 survived on its merits as a new show and the conflict was often just trying to figure out what House would do next.  Plus there was rich Vogler who was trying to bring House down.  Season 2 dwelved into the ex-girlfriend issue and hell House got shot.  Season 3, arguably the best, had the wiley detective trying to bring down our favorite doctor.  Season 4, arguably the weakest season of the series, restarted the series by refreshing and vetting the cast.  What is the conflict of this season.  Wilson being gone was a blip.  Cuddy and House is interesting, but not enough to hold the males that watch the show glued to their seats.  There is no overriding conflict for House to fight.  The PI has simply disappeared.

Here is what I am stabbing at:  House needs some central conflict to fight, while trying to save his patients.  It distracts him, keeps the audience excited about the next week and provide unique insight into the characters.  We need a problem that cannot be resolved in a single show or a even a couple of shows.  We need something that takes time and House stumbles on his way to resolving it.  Somebody make me a writer for the show!  I’ve got ideas.

  1. I agree, this episode was very weak.

If Princeton-Plainsboro is a teaching hospital why doesn’t Wilson have Oncology fellowships to give out? It would be cool if he had a team also.
Thirteen needs to die of huntingtons and Foreman needs to be the focus of a few episodes. I agree with TheMicro, he is by far the most interesting character after house himself.

  2. Foreman and Thirteen need to get it on!

  3. So I’m watching As Good As It Gets & about 5 minutes in Taub & Cuddy show up. I wasn’t sure at first b/c Taub had a lot more hair, but IMDB confirmed my suspicions.
