Favorite Movie of 2007

the microcosm’s readers have spoken, and frankly it is interesting what they have said.  The lovely young woman above may have much to do with the outcome of the most recent poll, at least for one guy out there.

I am a little skeptical of the recent poll results.  I am wondering whether or not there were multiple votes cast by certain (ahem MrNiceGuy) readers out there.  But, regardless, let’s look at the numbers:

1.  Transformers  (81 Votes)

2.  There Will Be Blood (61 Votes)

3.  No Country For Old Men (13 Votes)

4.  The Simpsons Movie (12 Votes)

5.  Juno  (10 Votes)

Tied for 6.  Ratatouille & Knocked Up (8 Votes)

8.  The Bourne Ultimatum  (7 Votes)

I am a little surprised out how few votes No Country received, but I guess Michael Bay will have quite an audience for his upcoming sequel.  Daniel Day-Lewis is probably the greatest actor on the planet (well at least in my top 5), so no surprise there.

Get ready for a new poll asap!

  1. i think the ending of No Country might have left a sour taste in some people’s mouths.

  2. no, people are just morons in general & would rather watch something flashy than a film with substance.

  3. Actually, I didn’t vote Transformers for Megan Fox, I voted it because of Shia Lebouf. Mmmmmmm :)

  4. Do you find Shia Lebouf to be good to your palate? or did you just get hungry at the end of your comment?…

  5. As a matter of fact he is very satisfying to my palate!

  6. No Country is by far the best movie on that list. (followed closely by There Will Be Blood)

  7. I actually voted for Juno, but that’s b/c I almost peed my pants several times when I saw it. I love gratuitous/creative violence as much as the next guy, but you can’t beat an overly sarcastic pregnant teenager. You’ll have to excuse me, I’ve got a call coming in on my hamburger phone…

  8. #’s 6 and 7 show us why the world is so wonderfully divided in half. Motion, it is obvious to me that No Country and There Will Be Blood were the clear outright winners, but then again I am male. Juno, clearly a female heroine/protagonist, caters to a different audience and although it may merit some consideration, it doesn’t affect me the same way. What did James Brown say? Oh yeah: “This is a man’s, a man’s, a man’s world
But it wouldn’t be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl”

  9. I get the point but all assassinating and blood/guts aside, I think my favorite part of those movies was the non-cookie cutter ending, it seemed pretty fresh and original to me.

  10. Yep, the ending for No Country for Old Men was so brutally true to the story it was perfect. The same for There Will Be Blood, but there have been endings for films like that before. He was sort of the Scarface of the oil industry. Get ready for the The Road, starring Viggo Moretensen. I read the book last year. It is by Cormac McCarthy (No Country) and if it holds to the book at all it will be intense.

  11. Viggo Mortensen will be excellent in that role – he is a great actor and not bad to look at.

I agree with the previous comments that “No Country” is the best movie on the list. Daniel Day Lewis was amazing as David Plainview in “Blood” – but overall, the movie was so dark and in many ways it was much more dark than “No Country.” I loved all the unique characters in “No Country.”

Transformers? Come on – are you kidding me? It was entertainment, but Best Movie of the Year… wow. Not in this year or any other year.

  12. Oh! Megan Fox: a “foxy”, tatted honey, whom I hear really, really likes to get laid. Does it get any better than that?! However, I like that you called me out on the over-voting, but I assure you I did not vote more than twice. I did vote it, though, and apparently the majority is an idiot. Who’s surprised by that? Look at our current, two-term president, whom I didn’t vote for by the way. I agree that “No Country” and “Blood” were incredible films. I don’t know all the statistics, but I’m sure they got they’re due of awards. Personally, I loved all three of the movies, and its one of those years where it makes it really hard to decide. The Coen Brothers are absofuckinglutely amazing, and I’ve always been a big fan of Daniel-Day Lewis – the guy is a genius actor. But my vote went for Transformers simply because it blew my mind that it was that good – yay, Michael Bay. I had no clue it was going to be so entertaining that when it ended I would watch it immediately again. I had a hunch that the other two were going to be incredible displays of story-telling and acting, and they were just that. Who knew I was the unspoken leader of the majority?
