I know that sounds strange, but it’s true. If you look at the richest, most developed countries, the birth rates are not only declining, in some places they have gone below the levels needed to keep their total population from shrinking. Places like Northern Europe, Japan, and Australia.
In Europe there are going to be more Muslims than Christians in the near future, because most of the immigrants there are from Muslim countries and many people are no longer claiming or practicing Christianity. In America, Mormonism and Islam are the fastest growing religions. Can you imagine a country where polygamy is a normal part of our society.
Why is it that now when we have enough money to take care of kids well, nobody has them anymore? It’s not only about religion, it just seems that as we get more and more money, we get more and more selfish. We want to live our lives and we don’t want to sacrifice for a family. We just don’t have time for kids anymore. Why have kids when they will just hamper our plans. So, a lot of people who could give the world wonderful children choose not to and I think that is just a shame. What would a world be like without children. It seems when I was kid there were children running around everywhere. And in a lot of ways there were, but now, there aren’t as many children. For every adult there are fewer children now than 20 years ago. Did you know in Japan they make life like robot dolls for old people who miss children? That is so weird.

Hello themicrocoms,
Materialism and selfishness seem synonymous. Love people and use things. Sadly, observation indicates things loved and people used. Take a look around. Look at all the hurting people. A living portrait of pain and sorrow. Not a pretty picture. Indeed, very sad.
The Obscure One
themicrocosm
Sorry about the spelling.
The Obscure One
The very beginning of that movie Idiocracy explains it really well.
I thought the movie idiocracy was profound. Simply because we are headed there.
Now, for a few comments. Maybe it is not selfish motives that people are choosing not to bring children into this hell hole world we ruined. Is it responsible to bring children into this disaster? Is it fair to them to be dropped into this mess and then expected to clean it up for themselves? (Cuz we sure ain’t gonna..or so it seems)
Also, maybe it only appears that people are more financially capable to have children. Did you ever consider that once they have children that mirage will shift? Those lil’ ones will easily destroy the financial security of the parents. Kids cost a shit-load of money. Once parents whom were financially secure will immediately become strapped for cash. I know I enjoy not being burdened with the stress of HAVING to make enough money. It’s one thing for me to not eat well, or to be willing to move into a tent if needed, but to bring a child into that instability is not responsible.
And is it so tragic that the population is shrinking? I think not. This world is already over-burdened. We are extreme consumers as it is, and use toooooo many resources per person. It is actually very disgusting. By not having children, it helps balance out our massive pillaging of the earth. Being as selfish as we are, we would not cut back our toll on the earth once we have kids. We would add to it. We wouldn’t automatically adjust our consumption. No, we would continue at the rate we are at now, and add to it by teaching (by example) our children how to be good little consumers. If your interested at all in this topic, you should check out this link . It definitely gives insight to just how abusive on earth we are. (fyi: it is a video that last 20 minutes).
As far as your little quip about religion. Who cares? Let them practice whatever they want. Is there a competition to have the largest religion in the world?
And as far as your statement,”What would a world be like without children”…answer…QUIET! do you deal with a lot of children? Well, I do. And they are little shits. Granted, it is not their fault, it’s the parents who are to be blamed. Themajority of youth today are very self absorbed, disrespectful, complacent and are no longer children. That ‘innocence of youth’ is no longer. They get so exposed to adult situations that they are calloused and often cruel. I am not a violent person, but I find myself wanting to slap the shit out of these little punks. Once again, this is not their issue, but of selfish parents who are too self absorbed to properly raise a kid. sooo, maybe it is better to be a childless selfish adult than a selfish adult trying to raise a child.
ok, that is interesting…the link i mentioned did not appear. I will try it again. http://www.storyofstuff.com
i think carrie’s got her panties in a bunch because she’s a bigot. she doesn’t want to see the day that this country is run by a black man or a mexican, yet a mormon would be okay…so long as he’s white. what she really wants is for her fellow honkeys to start cranking out the kids before this place turns into chocolate city.
Personally I believe that the declining birth rate has an extremely positive effect on our country. Do you think it’s a coincidence that the “richest, most developed countries” are following this trend? I agree with snowbetty’s statement: “This world is already over-burdened.” Why do we have to out-reproduce every other country, religion, race, etcetera? Just because the world CAN support our population does not mean it should. I think we should stop giving multiple tax breaks to families with multiple children, if not start charging families more after their first born. If you can’t afford to have children, STOP! This method of “birth control” could possibly prevent Idiocracy from becoming our future.
My question is what makes having children a good plan? Is it really that people are too selfish to raise a family? Or maybe we’re becoming a society that is overwhelmed with other interests. Maybe raising a family is just not that important anymore. Now this may seem sad to those of you who have happy loving families or are just waiting for your opportunity. It’s true that a family CAN be the most rewarding decision someone can make, but my point is that everyone wants something different and families aren’t at the top of everyone list.
Finding low birthrates in 1st world countries is not uncommon in fact it is the normal trend. In less developed countries, children are seen as potential income (more people in your family means more people working for your family). Please consult your local World Geography professor for any questions.

Yeah, baby! Rage on! snowbetty, lol. You would think we leave in a trash heap after you read your comment. I kind of like our fucked up little world. It is entertaining. Shit, what would it have been like to work in a factory during the Industrial Revolution, or a slave in a cotton field, or a peasant in Medieval Europe at the height of the Bubonic Plague, or a million other worse times or places where it would have been much easier to think about how shitty life and the world was? A lot of those people chose to have kids and, probably some of them were your ancestors. Now considering you haven’t committed harikari yet, I assume you somewhat enjoy this life. (Note: if you are considering suicide please consult help, as I hear it can result in death.) So, take a moment to thank all those others before you for bearing children, so that you could contemplate how moronic we are as a species.
And, by the way if you talk to any evangelical fuck out there, there is a serious race going on for the largest religion. Mostly in places where people are having kids for potential income, because us 1st Worlders are beginning to see the “light” or the lack thereof.
I just want to say to erikpetesgirlfriendssister, that I never said anything racist like that. And actually, I did not even say that I wanted Mormons to keep growing. I think polygamy is really bad and I think no matter what race you are it’s bad. Oh and there are plenty of African Americans that are my friends and attend church with me. I am totally ok with an African American or Hispanic president.
Also, I do care what religion people chose to follow. Even though I respect people who are of all religions, I would love for everyone to follow Christ’s teachings. But, I would not be a good Christian if I did not feel that way. I not like evangelical or anything. I do not go around trying to convince people to become my religion, but I am not going to not reference it when I so choose. The main point about religion I was saying was that with all these polygamy groups popping up in places, it seems weird, you know. I would not have expected so much of it in the 21st Century in America.
Why is polygamy bad? In theory it should lead to more children being born… Isn’t that what you wanted?
Stop Talking,
MotionShogun
p.s. Jesus supports polygamy and habitual MDMA use.
yes micro, i dig this life. and selfishly so.. therefore, no babies for me..right now. i know i am too selfish to be a great parent. must young adults don’t realize that…hence the fucked up youth. not enough guidence. tv does not make an excellent baby sitter. neither does x box. no offense mr. nice guy! he he he!
i do dig our little world. but the raging catholiholic had me pissed. as a good little christian, shouldn’t we be stewards of this earth? poppin’ out extreme mulitiples of babies isn’t exactly being a good steward.
as far as polygamy! who cares. shit, i’ll take on a second wifey just so that bitch can do my laundry and cleaning and i’ll go play with my man! point is, no harm, no foul. if she wants to share her man, whatever! maybe the two can get real close and become “special friends” as well.
and to carrie, ever consider that your religion isn’t right? or doesn’t fit everyone? did god tell you to stop judging? he takes care of that shit so you don’t have to. so fuckin’ stop it! love and peace, right?!
