The Off-season

Well, as we all know, House has not been so kind as to grace us with anything new in a long while.  He is not slated to do so until September 16, 2008 (aptly the day after my birthday).  At first I was lost and alone without my friend and fellow do-badder, but I have learned to cope.  I got my uncle hooked on the show and was forced to relinquish my first season DVDs over to him.  He has only recently finished them off and I have delivered him season 2 for his viewin pleasure.  I was going to jump in immediately and begin watching seasons 1,2,3 & 4 again, in a run up to the next season, but I decided I would hold off until later and let the desire build(like an opium addict, it is so much better after a few months of miserable cleanliness).

This would be an unbearable situation if not for another Hugh Laurie show I am now devouring.  Jeeves & Wooster, is an old school British Comedy of Errors from the Masterpiece Theater.  Whoa!  Never thought I would be writing about how much I enjoyed Masterpiece Theater, but I guess all those years of watching it with my dear old grandparents have affably affected me.

Jeeves is the genius of this show, played by Stephen Fry, and Wooster is the bumbling fool, played by Hugh Laurie.  Set in the 1920’s, I think, it is about affluent Brits, with Wooster being a playboy and Jeeves being his man servant, aka valet, aka, butler of sorts.  Anyway, Wooster is always getting into trouble and Jeeves is always brilliantly bailing him out.  It is not for those who dismiss high brow humor, but for any House fan, it is pretty wild to see the doctor dressed in tweed, with a dumbfounded look perpetually gracing his face, and constantly being made to look the fool.  The show is from the late 80s and early 90s and has 4 seasons of 6  50 minute episodes apiece.  Of course Fry and Laurie have paired up on a number of other comedic efforts (such as A Bit of Fry & Laurie), but I definitely think it is time for producers at House, M.D. to get their heads out of their asses and cast Fry in an episode or two.  “Fools.  Bureaucratic Fools.”  “They don’t know what they’ve got.”  Get it while it’s hot: Jeeves & Wooster.
