Presidential Nomination
I have searched for some truth in this year’s presidential nominees and I have not found much. I am probably going to vote for John McCain and God willing he will win, but I would have loved if we could have had Mike Huckabee as our nominee. I almost always vote Republican, but not because of their ideas about the economy and taxes, but because they are not so socially liberal.
As you can imagine I don’t support gay marriage, abortion, stem cell research and many other popular sinful ideas. They are immoral, in my views, and are more important to me than whether or not taxes are high or low. I actually think if there was a Democratic nominee with really conservative values I would vote for him. I like that Democrats want to look out for the hard workers and poor people, although if churches were more valued in our society they could do that.
I like Barack Obama, but I cannot vote for him. He is charismatic when he speaks, but I think he is too weak on foreign policy. I want to think that I am safe and that we do not have to roll over whenever people do not agree with us. That is probably the main reason for voting for McCain. Plus, Obama’s father was a Muslim, and whatever people may think, that will affect the way he views things.
Hillary Clinton. I don’t even want to get started on her. She is so two faced. I can just tell half of what she says is an act, like the sniper-fire comments. I can just see Bill Clinton stealing the show if she won. It would be like his third presidency. Plus, I am not much in favor of female politicians. Not because I do not think we can do the same job, but because many other countries are backwards and will not give us the same respect with a woman as president.
I really wish Mike Huckabee had won the nomination. His ideas about saving the environment are different from a lot of Republicans. He is a good Christian and a preacher. He has a strong stance on foreign policy and will not give in to our enemies. Israel belongs to the Jews, it is their God-given right and he vows to protect them from all the terrorists that want to kill innocent Jews. He would have been a good president and popular. He’s a good speaker, but we don’t vote with our hearts anymore. We vote with our wallets and who we think has a better chance of winning. Politics is such a dirty job.

I came across your blog on Technorati. Nice site layout. I will stop by and read more soon.

I am glad that you make it clear that these just are your opinions. I hate it when conservatives try to push their agenda onto others as the only option.
I tend to disagree with everything written in this article, but one part that makes sense is that churches could spend less time filling their coffers with money (so the preacher can drive a Cadillac) and preaching about the ills of sin and focused on helping people in need they might just get some respect and notice. Of course if a dog could fly we’d notice that too.
Saw a flying dog once. Had no wings. Did not fly very long. Wondered how it got up there. Never walked right after landing.

The Obscure One
My, my. I’m not to sure about you stance on Israel. It seems to me that the “terrorists”, who we’ll assume are Muslim, don’t agree with Jews on religion, obviously, and don’t see it as their right to rule the land. Since when did we restart drawing borders referencing a religious text? Plus, why do you care so much for someone who doesn’t believe in the holy trinity and killed you beloved savior? How long will we pity the Jews? I think they’re doing quite well now; they have all our latest [military] technology.
This was a presidential nomination post, right? Not which nominee would make the best leader of a religious state? I understand having strong moral values, but I don’t understand not valuing the separation between church and state. I live in a state that voted Huckabee as our choice for the nomination, and it scared me to think that so many people would willfully choose him to run our country. Although I agree with some of his policies, I can not agree with his proposals to limit our personal freedoms (abortion, recognition of gay relationships, etc.). As far as foreign policy goes, what’s wrong with having a Muslim born, but practicing Christian running our country in these hard times? “Peace can not be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding” -Albert Einstein.
lame
my goodness child, get thee to a library!!!!
Margaret Thatcher! Indira Ghandi! Golda Mier! and these are just the super “popular” ones. there have been innumerable strong and well-respected female leaders in this world. maybe if you read one book other than the bible in your life, you’d have a better grasp of world history and current events.
and saying that “isreal” is the god-given right of the jews is not only myopic and insensitive, but it’s irresponsible and stupid. the turning over of palestine and the fictitious rebirth of the state of isreal in 1948 is tantamount to the u.s. government appropriating all of florida and handing it and all property over to the seminole indians… whom the state “rightfully” belongs to, based on your zionist logic. seriously, take a moment to think about what i am saying… think about the ramifications of the displacement of the current floridians, of the affect of seizing all their property and handing it over to someone else, of the aftermath of such a huge nationally mandated betrayal of a group of citizens. if “move your feet, lose your seat” is an acceptable form of social order in most homes, why are we so stupid to ignore its logic in the big picture?
by the way, the jews aren’t so innocent either… there is a lot of terrorist activity ascribed to isreal, but our slanted media doesn’t portray it as such. many an innocent palestinian has been killed by the hands of isreal and her supporters. all conflicts have two sides… both are right and both are wrong… until the winner defines the history of the conflict.
your logic that obama’s father being muslim would have an affect on his foreign policy is accurate in that he’s probably going to be less short-sighted and dogmatic in his affairs… but that he’ll be any more sensitive towards the islamic ideology is a sophomoric assertion. for the record, my background is catholic AND jewish and i obviously disagree with most of their tenets. just because you know and/or understand something does not mean you support it.
i find your opposition to hilary hilarious. she’s probably the best example of a good christian on any of the tickets. she stuck by her philandering husband and she forgave him his sins (she’s like jesus 2.0 for putting up with that shit!) she did a GREAT job raising an intelligent, responsible, classy, and morally upright daughter (have you taken a look at any of the bush children lately? papa bush and babs failed with coke-head, alcoholic, c-student, and failed entrepreneur g.w.. and g.w. and laura obviously failed with their morally corrupt twins.). her stupid “it takes a village” ideology is right in line with your community of church mumbojumbo. seriously… this woman should be your friggin’ hero, except for the fact that she doesn’t walk 20 paces behind her husband and isn’t just a birth vessel.
all the candidates suck. mccain was almost decent about 5 years ago, but rolling over and playing dead for the republican agenda is sickening. obama is like hitler in that he’s a great orator with little political experience, pandering to the desperate masses with the promise of change and hope. hillary supports some of the most deplorable social programs ever (nafta is the single worst thing to happen to the american economy in my lifetime… seriously, how on earth could anyone beat reaganomics for that title!?!! sheesh). i wish huckabee had won the republican nomination, because then i’d at least be passionate about the race, as there’d be a undeniably undesirable candidate and i could at least be excited about voting against someone.
YES! Archi, you have officially agreed with “the Christian girl” again. Well, at least this time you got the author right. That is to say, both of you miss the dashing looks of the Governor of Arkansas. Most impressed that you also managed to mention fascists in this retort. And, for the record, the Bush daughters turn me on. Especially the one with the darker hair. I would love to…
Well, I guess I have been labeled the Christian girl. That’s ok. I kind of like it. Maybe you are right about Hillary in some ways, but I still don’t think that she has a lot of issues when it comes to telling the truth. Just like her most recent ploy to win votes by saying she was in a war zone and being shot at. It is likely that a lot of her stories are made up. I don’t like that she cries to win votes either. She seems very insincere. I don’t think it’s right to compare her to Christ. She may have been through a lot of hard times, but she certainly sincs and probably puts on a different face for the public. Obama at least sounds like he means what he is saying, but not as much Pastor Huckabee.
I was not saying that women can’t be good at leading, but just that some countries don’t respect women leaders the same way that they do men.
I know I’m sooper late on this but saying that we shouldn’t have a female president because certain other countries wouldn’t like us is like saying that I can’t wear a Lacoste polo because then they wouldn’t let me into the Country Club because they only allow Ralph Lauren polos…screw that Country club they need to be brought into this century and know that a Lacoste polo is JUST AS good as a Ralph Lauren polo..ignorance like this shouldn’t be tip-toed around
